In today’s turbulent business environment, where geographical and industrial boundaries are disappearing along with the distinction between incumbent and startup companies, achieving superior innovation capabilities has never been so important. Yet, most innovation initiatives fail to achieve their performance targets due to complexity and uncertainty around customer needs, technological options, business model configurations or scalability issues. While similar management principles and techniques, e.g., from design thinking, lean and agile approaches, are being adopted globally, countries are eager to maintain their national identity and cultural heritage, while adapting their social and regulatory frameworks in an evolutionary, non-disruptive, fashion. This symposium will provide a unique opportunity for practitioners to gain insights about the Swedish and Japanese innovation ecosystems. Participants will also get inspiration from managers of unicorns and other successful startups in the digital business about key factors that drive innovation success.
